Surgical instrument trays traveling to and from clinics must be clearly identified as either "Sterile and Ready-to-Use", or "Used & Soiled" with a Biohazard Legend. Wrapped, open-topped trays or baskets that are used to transport instruments to a clinic’s procedure room, can't be used to remove the instruments that have become contaminated. Many hospitals still use a towel to cover instruments, but this is a clear violation of the standards. A closed, leak-resistant tray with a biohazard symbol is a requirement not an option.
